Amman, August 2010 – Umniah announced its sponsorship of the Second Youth Tech Forum that was held under the slogan ‘Women and Elections’ and was organized by the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) in partnership with Sisterhood Is Global Institute – Jordan (SIGI). The forum’s plenary session took place on Saturday, the 7th of August, and was inaugurated by His Excellency the Minister of Political Development Engineer Musa Maaytah. Her Excellency Dr. Asma Khader, Secretary General of the JNCW, gave the opening speech marking the two-day youth forum.
The forum strove to enhance knowledge on the latest technological advancements whilst also bolstering awareness on democracy, freedom of speech, and integrity amongst youth in the Kingdom. Youth attending the forum discussed the most pressing topics related to the upcoming elections and how they can actively participate, whilst also focusing on the important role that women play on the Jordanian political scene. The Youth Tech Forum stressed the connection between developing technological skills and abilities in terms of Internet solutions and communication tools with the positive impact such skills would have on increasing communication between different members of society.
Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Ihab Hinnawi, Umniah’s CEO, said: “We are proud to be a part of this forum that targets an extremely important segment of the Jordanian society. Youth play an important role in making our development efforts a success, and as such they must realize their pivotal role in the elections process, in addition to the importance of understanding the valuable role that Jordanian women play in politics. We are pleased that this forum plays a substantial role in creating open dialogue on the most vital issues related to our country’s political development.”
Umniah’s sponsorship of the forum included the provision of free wireless Internet services “UMAX” and USB devices in addition to distributing other gifts to participants and attendees, as well as its team’s engagement with the forum’s visitors through Umniah’s interactive booth.
Participants were also given the chance to showcase their abilities and devise their own awareness campaigns at the end of the conference, where a specialized committee chose and awarded the best campaigns.
