Olympic legacy benefits Sportex

Beijing 2008 was one of the most successful Olympics of all time, and its success continues to permeate out to all corners of the sports, health and fitness industry as Asia’s focus turns to physical excellence. This year’s Sportex Middle East exhibition will see increased interest from exhibitors from across the continent, with a large delegation from China expected at the show in December.

Beijing 2008 welcomed a total of 11,028 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees competing in 302 events in 28 sports.

While this year’s Sportex will not garner such Olympic figures, more than 80 companies are expected promoting the very latest in sports, fitness, health, outdoor and stadium equipment. Of these, 30 companies are expected to come from China, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia.

Among the Asian exhibitors will be Harson Sports from Thailand, visiting Sportex to promote its Spring Balls, and Elite International China, a developer and manufacturer of sporting products.

“Asia has fast emerged as a business super power in recent years and now, following the success of the Olympics last year, a lot of that energy is being redirected into health, fitness and sporting industries. Sportex 2009 will boast a dedicated China Pavilion as well as attendance from companies from Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia, showing the potential of Asia as a key source market for the health and fitness industry,” said Abdul Rehman Falaknaz, President of International Expo Consults, organisers of Sportex Middle East.

In addition to bolstered support from the Asia Pacific, Sportex will also attract a global audience of exhibitors from across the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.

Last year’s event saw a 30 percent increase in exhibitors from Europe and America.

“Sportex has been an international ramp for American, Asian and European companies to display their product and services,” said Abdul Rehman Falaknaz.
Sportex 2009 will see repeat participation from companies like EMD (Spain), Digilock (USA) and OMSI (Italy).

The 2008 edition of the Sportex Middle East exhibition, held in early November at Dubai World Trade Centre, was the most successful event in the event’s six-year history. More than 3,250 trade visitors attended the event, which was endorsed by Dubai Sports Council and presented by Dubai Sports City.

Sportex is supported by the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), a world authoritative body for the sports industry and officially recognized by the IOC.

Sportex 2009 will run from December 6 to 8 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
