Contributing to the largest cause-related campaign in support of universal education
Amman, February 2010 – During the announcement that was made by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan and the GSMA, the trade group for the global mobile industry, with regards to the ‘1GOAL: Education for All’ mobile campaign, Umniah – the fastest growing telecom service provider in Jordan – pledged its support to the world’s largest cause-related campaign ever undertaken. The announcement of Umniah’s support took place on the 16th of February 2010 during the launch of the 1GOAL mobile campaign in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the GSMA, Umniah’s CEO Mr. Ihab Hinnawi, other founding mobile and telecom operators supporting the campaign, as well as and South African football team captain, Aaron Makoela and Chairman of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta during the Mobile World Congress 2010.
Commenting on their support to this campaign, Mr. Ihab Hinnawi, said: "We at Umniah strongly believe in the importance of education as a key to development and poverty alleviation and that this starts with ensuring that all children have the opportunity go to school. We are proud to be part of this unique global initiative that supports such a critical cause and one that not only addresses the needs of one of our key segments at Umniah, the youth segment, but also one that supports such a universal issue. We are confident that the campaign will mobilize the substantial support it is aiming to garner, showing decision makers across the world that we are united in our demands for supporting education for all.”
The campaign – a legacy of the FIFA Footbal World Cup 2010 aims to ensure that all children of the world are given the opportunity to go to school by 2015, and will provide a platform for people across the globe to support the campaign that will be officially launched on the 20th of April and will continue until the FIFA World Cup final in South Africa on the 11th of July. The 1GOAL: Education for All’ Campaign will comprise a host of mobile communications tools, including mobile advertising, applications and messaging. It will enable millions of people to sign up via these mobile response mechanisms, demonstrating to global leaders and the United Nations that universal education is in fact a universal demand.
