Dubai June 2010: After nearly seven years living and working in the UAE it’s time for one Dubai resident to pack up and head for home, but not before selling a holiday home she bought in Cyprus during the boom time in Dubai.
Sarah McCay bought the property in 2007, when the global real estate market was at its peak. She has since been trying to sell the property for some time, with little to no success.
Desperate to return to the UK, but needing to free up much needed equity from the property, Sarah has now decided to put the house up for auction online.
“It started as a joke. A friend of mine suggested I put the house up with Souk.com. But that sparked an idea, and after some web research I hit upon a site that actually auctions properties from all over the world,” Sarah explains.
“I listed the property, submitted some images, and have since had a couple of offers, although none have hit my reserve price yet, which is AED625,000 (GBP115,000). I’m very hopeful that I will manage to sell the property and will be able to move back to the UK this summer.”
Sarah has listed her house with www.worldwidepropertyauctions.com, an online property auction facility whereby property owners can offer their properties for sale via an auction process. Properties are added by individual owners and all related bids and enquiries are sent directly to the property owners themselves.
So what does AED625,000 get you at auction? Sarah is selling a two-bedroom semi-detached house in the much sought after village of Kiti, close to the international airport and town centre of Larnaca.
The house comes with a communal pool, shared by three other properties, as well as spacious front and side terrace and is fully furnished throughout.
“When I bought the property I was planning on spending quite some time in Cyprus, so I decorated it and furnished it to a very high standard. However, as work pressure increased getting to Cyprus became more difficult and in the end I put it up for rent,” Sarah explains.
The house has been rented for the past two years, but the tenant is now leaving this summer.
“It will make someone a perfect holiday home, investment property or future retirement pad. It is close to local amenities, the beach and a proposed golf course, so there’s plenty to do,” Sarah says.
